    The City of Washington and the former police chief settled on a legal battle to determine the fate of a private police fund that helped give needy kids a Christmas.The confusion started when the City of Washington disbanded its police department in July. Court documents state that's when the police department's budget was reduced to zero and the city sought to take over the annual children's Christmas toy program.

    The Richmond County Sheriff's Office investigating a body that was found in an Augusta home.Authorities say the incident happened on the 2000 block of Powell Avenue, which is off of Heard Avenue near Wrightsboro Road.
