    Augusta area drivers will soon be able to get up and down one of the busiest roads faster. Augusta engineers unveiled a Traffic Signal Modernization Project at a public meeting Thursday night. Engineers said at the meeting lights along Walton Way, between 15th Ave. and Bransford Rd. are older and have thus become more expensive to keep up. Engineering Manager Glen Bollinger said, “They are kind of smart signals. They operate based on demand.”

    A Gloverville man is dead after being hit by an S-U-V.The accident happened on Highway 421 and Ash Street in Aiken County.The victim is identified as 63-year old Henry Reese of Gloverville. According to the coroner, Reese was trying to cross the road near Ash Street when he was hit. The driver of the S-U-V will not face charges.

    Turning 18 or 21 used to mean getting to vote or buy a mixed drink, but those milestones could soon mean something more for young people in Georgia.Lawmakers introduced an amendment to the Georgia Constitution that would let younger people serve in the House and Senate. The amendment would lower the minimum age to be a state senator from 25 to 21. It would also lower the age to be a State Representative from 21 to 18.
