A subcommittee of the House Judiciary committee approved the bill that would allow private companies to opt out of government programs if the program conflicts with that company's religious beliefs.

    Veterans across the CSRA shared their ups and downs with the staff of the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center during a Town Hall meeting. The event, held at the American Legion Post 205 off Highland Avenue in August, helped veterans understand more about their care and other issues relating to their health. VA administrators were pleased with the turnout and the on location help many veterans received. But the conversations proved there is still work that needs to be done at the hospital.

    The city of Harlem, Georgia is ready to hire a new police chief. The city council met to talk about the finalists Monday night. Leaders decided to offer the job to Chuck Meadows. Meadows already works for the department. If he accepts the job he will replace Chief Gary Jones, who left in November for the same job in Grovetown, Georgia.The council also voted to promote Harlem Police Officer Rob Lewis to captain. Lewis was the other finalist for the job of police chief.

It was 2005 the last time Columbia County mapped growth in the area. There were about 100,000 people and growing. A consulting team from Atlanta laid out the process for the plan, which will include input from community members. A three prong approach is in the works for a plan that will map out how Columbia County citizens want to live.

Incumbent Hap Harris and Sean Frantom are headed for a runoff in the District 7 race for the Augusta Commission. Frantom finished with 44% of the vote. Harris got 37%.Harris was appointed to the seat in September after Donnie Smith resigned.Sonny Pittman finished third in Tuesday's voting.The runoff is set for April 14th.Turnout was just over 13.5%.

    A routine check-up at the doctor's office gave an Augusta man news he was not expecting. After a few tests, he learned he needed open heart surgery right away. Doctors considered Wayne Curtis to be healthy and active at 53. But, to their surprise, a series of heart test said otherwise. “Never felt any pain,” Curtis described his health during the prognosis.

    A change was made to make a Georgia military base less religious, but it did not stay that way for too long. It began when officials at Warner Robins Air Force Base, which is located south of Macon, told gate guards they could no longer greet visitors by saying have a blessed day. News Channel 6 spoke with a few people in the CSRA to see how they would respond to the change. “It's freedom of speech and I don't think it's offending anybody,” said Asia Blount, an Augusta resident.

    One CSRA community gave their opinions about a proposed pipeline project. It's called the Palmetto Project and a large portion of that work includes hundreds of miles of a new gas pipeline in this area. Burke County homeowners had many concerns about the proposed pipeline project, especially when it comes to potential dangers to the environment. Shelly Rogers joined her Burke County neighbors in a line of questions to Kinder Morgan.
